Meet Our Doctors & Staff

Dr. Katie Sizer

Katie Sizer, DVM

Dr. Sizer was raised as an army kid and traveled the world throughout her childhood, but she’s been a North Carolinian since 1995. She attended college in Fayetteville, NC at Methodist University and then went on to veterinary school at NC State, graduating in 2013. Dr. Sizer and her husband live in Pittsboro with their two beautiful children and three beautiful dogs.

Dr. Sizer’s professional interests include senior pet care, dentistry, internal medicine, preventive care, and feline medicine.  She has been Fear Free Certified since 2019 and AAFP Cat Friendly Certified since 2022.  She is very passionate about low-stress patient handling and making veterinary visits a positive experience for pets and clients.  Her personal interests include hiking, canoeing, gardening, watching movies, traveling, and of course spending time with her human and canine family!

Bridget Steffeney, RVT

Bridget Steffeney, RVT

Bridget started out in human medicine but found her true calling in the world of veterinary medicine. Bridget graduated with honors from the CCCC Veterinary Medical Technology program in 2022. She has since enjoyed working in general practice, building trusting relationships with clients and their pets. Bridget is currently working towards her Fear Free Certification. Her passions are dentistry, stress-free handling, anesthesia, and client education.

She resides with her husband, two wonderful children, and two beagles on the edge of Pittsboro. In her free time, Bridget enjoys spending time with her family and pets, reading, and hitting up a good coffee shop.

Carolyn Doyle

Carolyn Doyle, RVT

Carolyn has been working in veterinary medicine since 2010. She graduated from UMass Amherst with her bachelor’s in Animal Sciences then went back to school to get her veterinary technician license. While she is experienced in both general practice and emergency medicine, she found her true calling in GP. Her favorite part about her job is building lasting relationships with clients (and their pets) throughout the years and empowering them about their pets care. Her special interests include anesthesia, dental care, and compassionate handling. Carolyn is a Fear Free Certified Elite professional and takes pride in making every experience as comfortable as possible for all patients. Having a few “spicy” pets of her own, she understands how stressful vet visits can be for pets and owners alike and strives to alleviate as much of that stress as possible.

She and her husband live with their menagerie of dogs, cats, hermit crabs, and chickens. In her free time she loves spending time with her pets, reading, and being outdoors!

Susan Brooks

Susan Brooks

Vet Assistant/Customer Service Representative

Susan earned a degree in Equine Studies in 1985 just before arriving in NC, and followed that up with a degree in Veterinary Medical Technology from CCCC in Sanford, NC! She’s worked for and managed several successful practices through the years, and also became a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager along the way.

Although Susan recently took a short break from the veterinary medical field after 30 years, she’s thrilled to be back working at her “calling in life”, offering support to the rockstar DVM and RVTs at Haw River Animal Hospital! She says the best part of being on the HRAH team is providing the same outstanding level of care that she would want for her own furkids.

When she isn’t helping clients and their pets at HRAH, Susan can usually be found at the barn, hanging out and riding Zip, her wonder-pony. They ride with Red Mountain Hounds in the fall and winter months, and compete in 3 day eventing during the spring and summer. She also loves spending time with her husband Joe, their rescue dogs Olive and Pico, and Jax the cat at their 1903s farmhouse in the Bynum neighborhood of Pittsboro.
